In the afternoon on May 16, Chengdu PerkinElmer Medical Laboratory, the first enterprise settling down in Phase II of Tianfu Life Science Park, hosted its opening ceremony and was put into operation. Li Wei, a member of the Party Work Committee and Deputy Director of Chengdu High-tech Zone Administrative Committee, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Relevant officials of the Bureau of Biological Industry Development, Community Governance and Social Affairs Bureau of Chengdu High-tech Zone, Chengdu First People's Hospital, and Chengdu Hi-tech Investment Group attended the ceremony.

Chengdu PerkinElmer Medical Laboratory opens to establish presence in western China

As the first enterprise settling down in Phase II of Tianfu Life Science Park, Chengdu PerkinElmer Medical Laboratory Co., Ltd. had acquired the Practicing License of Medical Institution on April 24 and was opened on May 16.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Director Li Wei extended congratulations for the inauguration of Chengdu PerkinElmer Medical Laboratory Co., Ltd. In his speech, he said that PerkinElmer's cooperation with West China Hospital of Sichuan University, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, and other institutions will promote the sound development of all sides, stimulate the innovation vitality of the bio-industry ecosystem in Chengdu High-tech Zone, and boost relevant industrial function zones in Chengdu, thus contributing to the booming scene of Chengdu's biological industry.

Among the top 500 enterprises in US, PerkinElmer is the world's largest producer of analytical instrument. Since entering China's market in 1980s, the company has developed with strong momentum and is working to become China's best provider of "one-stop services" in the monitoring and consulting of common and rare complex genetic diseases. Chengdu PerkinElmer Medical Laboratory is the second independent medical laboratory of PerkinElmer (China). Targeting at pre-pregnancy, pre-delivery, newborn, pediatrics, and other fields of maternal and health care, the laboratory offers a series of special examination services based on self-developed products and other cutting-edge technical products.

According to sources, based on its powerful R&D resources worldwide, PerkinElmer Medical Laboratory keeps introducing testing projects. Currently, it has covered biochemistry, immunity, cell, molecule, sequencing, R&D, and other testing platforms, engaging in 200-plus special testing projects and testing nearly 300 thousand samples each year. It has reached to all provinces and municipalities in China except Tibet, and established sound reputation in maternal and health care. "The establishment of Chengdu PerkinElmer Medical Laboratory will expand the reach of PerkinElmer, help PerkinElmer to cut costs and get better integrated with local resources, and explore more flexible and efficient business model," said Xu Ye, Business General Manager of Reproductive Health and Independent Medical Laboratory of PerkinElmer Diagnosis Business Department (China region).

More enterprises will settle down in Phase II of Tianfu Life Science Park

According to Xu Ye, during the preparations for the building of the Chengdu laboratory, PerkinElmer received strong support and help from Chengdu Hi-tech Zone and Tianfu Life Science Park. He believed that with the help from all parties, PerkinElmer will take roots and thrive in Chengdu and even western China, and contribute more to reproductive health and maternal and health care industry.

The Park management company offered PerkinElmer many targeted services before, during and after its settling down, such as decoration, assistance in environmental impact assessment and industrial and commercial procedures, policy publicity, and in accessing government services. In the future, other key projects of the first batch will also open in Phase II of Tianfu Life Science Park, such as Farsoon Tuling, Beike Biotechnology, Janus Genomics, and Sichuan Jinhe.

Covering an area of 167 mu and a planned total construction area of 294,000 square meters, Phase II of Tianfu Life Science Park is located in No. 1136, Xinchuan Road, Chengdu Hi-tech Zone. Designed as a new powerhouse of Chengdu in medicine innovation, it focuses on smart health, precision medicine, medical cosmetology, and other cross-sectoral new business forms. It was put into operation in late 2018. Currently, 7 domestic and foreign projects have determined to settle down, and another 20-odd projects are under negotiation.

Some carriers of Phase II of Tianfu Life Science Park will work with Sichuan University to shape a frontier medical center in Chengdu. The center aims to shape a world-class powerhouse in Chengdu, engaging in "medicine+" innovative research, project incubation, and industry introduction. It will get integrated into the bio-industry ecosystem in Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, and empower Chengdu to build an internationally competitive medicine and health industry system that drives regional development.
